Join us for a special event celebrating author/illustrator Tad Hills and his literary characters for young children! Tad Hills, who has created the endearing characters, Duck, Goose, and Rocket, will show children how to illustrate the beloved feathered and furry friends featured in his award-winning books.
Refreshments for children and their parents will be offered. Free books will be distributed courtesy of a generous donor and Split Rock Books in Cold Spring.
Tad Hills is an American children’s book author/illustrator, whose first picture book, Duck & Goose, about a pair of web-footed friends, was an instant bestseller and ALA Notable Book for Children. The Duck & Goose series now contains nine titles – all New York Times bestsellers – and is now a streaming series on Apple TV. .
Tad Hills is also the author/illustrator of How Rocket Learned to Read, winner of the Irma Simonton Black & James H. Black Award for Excellence in Children’s Literature. Rocket Writes a Story and five other sequels have been named as top picture books of the year by Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Publishers Weekly, and School Library Journal.
At the event, the Desmond-Fish Public Library will present Mr. Hills with the Alice Curtis Desmond Award for Excellence in Children’s Literature. The Library’s co-founder, Alice Curtis Desmond, made her writing career as an author of books for young people.
