We are living through an extraordinary time – businesses closed, people struggling to make ends meet, school classes cancelled or moved online, and, worst of all, getting sick ourselves and having friends and family who are ill and dying. At the same time, we are resilient – cooking, gardening, learning new skills, connecting online with colleagues, friends and family, getting outdoors to appreciate the natural beauty around us, and learning how to live in a very different way.
We are launching this new oral history project to capture in real time how people are living during the 2020 pandemic. We hope you will share your experiences as they are happening and as they are changing day-to-day and month-to-month. You can share mundane or funny experiences as well as poignant stories describing challenges or sadness. We want to collect it all so that once this time has passed, we can look back and listen and have a greater understanding of what it was like to live through the COVID-19 pandemic.
To capture our community members’ stories, we are using an online audio recording program called MEMRIA. You can use your phone or a computer to record, and upload a photo or two to illustrate your story. The stories will be posted on the DFPL website. (Please keep your language respectful of our general audience.)
WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. Sign up today to receive a Memria invitation link that you will use to begin recording.
